But the process is repetitive

As of a recent update inMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, it is now possible to bring back a beloved buddy who becomes unusable after you progress far enough into the story. But you’re not going to like the method. In a game full of padding, there’s now just a little bit more repetition.

To be clear, you’ll want to stop reading now if you’re looking to avoid specifics.

Okay. So.

Once you get near the end of the story inThe Phantom Pain, you’ll probably want to continue pushing forward and wrap it up instead of messing with Side-Ops and the like. That’s how it went for me, anyway. You’ll also probably have a favorite companion or two. D-Dog and Quiet, perhaps. You’re likely used to playing with them and they’re a big part of the strategies you’ve developed.

Unfortunately, if you’re going for all of the game’s endings, Quiet will leave. There are mods for the PC version to put her back in, but on consoles, once she’s gone, she’s gone for good.

But not anymore!

Now, with the new update, you may replay Mission 11: Cloaked in Silence —the fight against Quiet— to earn her as a buddy again. The thing is, though, you have to beat the missionseven times. Eventually, the name on the iDroid mission list will change from [REPLAY] to [REUNION].

The good news is that once she’s your pal again, she’ll stay that way.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever go for 100% completion in this game, but if I do, I’ll want to have Quiet and her all-too-useful tranq sniper back on my team. Godspeed, completionists.
