Tyler Childersand his wife, Senora May, are a musical couple with a beautiful love story.
The country singers first crossed paths when they were both 23 years old in 2013 after Childers took a job on a farm in Kentucky. May was in the same area cleaning houses to make extra money while she attended college.
“I was living out on this farm with a 65-year-old dude and this angel walks in,” he toldThe Chicago Tribunein 2018. “That was four years ago. She’s still putting up with me.”
Childers wrote onhis websitethat at the beginning of their relationship, May supported him as he tried to build up his career.
“For a good chunk of it, Senora May’s put up with me and been there for it," he wrote. “She stuck with me, so it’s really awesome because we told ourselves that if we made these sacrifices, or held off just a little longer and kept at this, maybe one day it might work out.”
After the couple wed in 2015, they moved in with his family to save money, which they used to buy a piece of land. Childers and May later lived on the property in a camper van as they built a home and prepared to start a family.
Most recently, in May 2023, the artists announced the arrival of their first childon Instagram. Later that fall, Childers was nominated five times at the 66th annualGrammy Awardsfor his songs “In Your Love,” “Help Me Make It Through the Night” and his album,Rustin' in the Rain.

May is from the rural Appalachia region of eastern Kentucky. According toher website, she has five siblings and grew up spending much of her time outdoors in the woods hunting, fishing and identifying wildflowers.
Over time, she developed her artistic style and felt a responsibility to “honor” Appalachia’s musical tradition while building on it to reach new potential.
She added, “I feel a certain obligation to remain true to my raising, which inspires my music greatly.”

Childers and May have been dating since 2013 and were committed to each other early on regardless of changing circumstances.
“We had been dating for about one month, I’d just graduated from Berea College and applied for 19 different Americorps Vista positions across the nation, and this was the first one to get back to me,” she toldThe Daily Yonderin 2021 of a job she was offered in West Virginia.
May immediately asked Childers if he would move with her. “He didn’t hesitate, he just said ‘yeah, why not?’ ” she recounted.
She married Childers in 2015

Childers and Maytied the knot in July 2015. Since then, the upcoming singers have occasionally shared details about their nuptials, which happened before he shot to stardom with his win at theAmericana Music Honors & Awardsfor best emerging artist in 2018.
“She took a poofy winter wedding dress she found at Goodwill for $10…and turned it into the prettiest summer wedding dress I ever did see,” he wrote in 2019. “@senoramay is more woman than I deserve, and all the woman I’ll ever need.”

The pair announced the arrival of their first child in May 2023 in a post on their charity’s Instagram page. The photo featured Childers and May in nature as the new mom held their child in her arms.
The year prior, in July 2022, May revealed she was pregnant via a maternity photo shoot onInstagram.

Philanthropy is important to Childers and May, who started theHickman Holler Appalachian Relief Fund (HHARF)in 2020. According to the organization’s website, it aims to bring “awareness and financial support for philanthropic efforts in the Appalachian region.”
The charity is also dedicated to social causes, including “education, civil rights and addiction recovery.”
In anInstagrampost for Giving Tuesday in November 2023, the couple shared, “Through this fund, we’ve been able to provide support to over 34 grants and assist more than 22 organizations across Appalachia.”

When she’s not performing, May loves to spend time in her garden, where she grows a variety of vegetables.
In April 2023, she shared a picture onInstagramof her produce, which included tomatoes, okra, squash, green beans, cabbage and more. Besides vegetables, she also enjoysgrowing flowers.

Childers and May celebrate each other when the opportunity arises. The “Shake the Frost” singer posted onInstagramto celebrate May’s album release in 2018, lovingly referring to her as his “Life Manager.”
Childers has even made music about his wife. The country artist toldThe Chicago Tribunethat he wrote his song “Lady May” for her. In the song, Childers sings, “I’ve seen my share of trouble / and I’ve held my weight in shame / but I’m baptized in your name / my lovely Lady May."
The pair have also attended events together, including the Grammys in 2020. “Had a blast taking the lady out. She looked beautiful, and I’m a lucky man," Childers shared onInstagramafter the event.
Through all their music-making and touring, Childers has said they keep each other accountable while still offering unwavering support.
“Every now and then I’ll slip up and she’ll say, ‘You’re still a dummy, so it’s a good thing you found me.’ She’s definitely added years to my life and supports me wholeheartedly," he toldThe Chicago Tribune. “She understands how important music is to me because she’s an all-around artist in her own right.”
