This is a hefty update coming with The Finals 1.6.0. It’s great to see more content added in the form of cosmetics and game modes. The balancing efforts here, and in the last big patch, show that Embark Studios are doing everything in their power to make this a top tier game.

The Finals patch notes, Jun 22, 2025 - 1.5.0
One of the more difficult things in the early life a competitive game is getting that early balance feeling ‘right’. We’re at the point with The Finals now that hitting that sweet spot is all the more important–hence today’s patch notes for 1.5.0. There’s a lot of quality-of-life stuff here, including the addition of trails for projectiles, animation tweaks, and more. A lot of weapons are seeing upward damage buffs as well.

Aim Assistance
What do you know, with one set of patch notes The Finals has already done more to combat XIM than Overwatch 2. On paper this doesn’t seem like the most exciting of updates. After all, the blog even says that a larger patch with actual content is set for next week. However, getting a handle on aim assistance is a constant battle–and one that Embark seems to be taking serious from the start.
This is the downside to a shooter with cross-compatibility across PC and console. After all, we’ve all played shooters with a controller and… Well, it feels bad. Not to knock anyone out there that prefers it. However, you’re wrong and bad and should feel shame. However, that shame also leads folks to find ways around the path of least resistance.

Fortunately, there are some simple fixes to try.
Sometimes this means that players find a way to use mouse and keyboard on PC, other times it means locking in aim assist in other ways. I do worry about the contingent of folks who re-map their buttons for the sake of accessibility. Is aim assist no longer an option? The feedback from players will answer this question long-term. That said, it could be yet another way that accessibility loses.
But these changes are needed for the larger contingent of players. Aim assist is a tricky bit of business, but this seems like a good start.
