Jeff Lewissays he ended his relationship with his former partner, Gage Edward, long before they officially separated.
During Friday’s episode of his Sirius XM radio show,Jeff Lewis Live, in which theFlipping Outstarinvited his therapist, Dr. Donna Dannenfelser as a guest, Lewis says he tried to end things with Edward two years ago because he was feeling “betrayed and replaced.”
Through therapy, Lewis was able to discover what could be the root of some of their current issues, adding that ever since that day, he’s been trying to drive a wedge between them.

“Ever since then every action and every decision was basically to push him away,” Lewis continued. “I needed him to leave me versus me to leave him.”
Lewis, 48, first announced the pair’s separation in January, and revealed that Edward, 33, had been sleeping in the guest room of their family home — which they share with theirtwo-year-old daughter Monroe— for the better part of a year.
“This has been a long time coming,” Lewis said, adding that he and Edward had been intimate recently but only as “friends with benefits.”
Since their separation, Lewis has been revealing to his radio listeners how things are unfolding in their relationship and detailing their attempts at reconciliation. Lewis said they have bothattempted dating other people, and shared that they had a “terrible” dinner date in February that caused him to storm out and later call Edward to tell him he takes “100 percent responsibilityfor what has gone wrong in this relationship.”

“I truly feel like I have failed you, I have failed my child, and I have failed my family,” Lewis recalled saying to Edward on the phone.
Lewis has also said that he plans to have another child in the near future — even if they don’t reunite.
“Within the next year, with or without Gage,I’m going to pursue having another child,” the house flipper said earlier this month onJeff LewisLive.“I think Monroe needs another sibling.”
“I do want to have another child for Monroe. Not just for Monroe, but for me,” he added. “Because I always thought that I would never, ever do it if I didn’t have a partner. But I think I can. I just need to hire a few more nannies.”

Lewis also had a massive fight with his otherFlipping Outcostar, Jenni Pulos, which ended their nearly 20-year friendship andappears to have lead to the end of their Bravo seriesafter 11 seasons.
On Tuesday, Lewis revealed on his radio show that he and Edward are still coworkers at Lewis’s design company, explaining that Edward, “goes to our houses and he manages the sites.” (Edward did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment).
Sources close to the pair confirmed to PEOPLE that they are “continuing to work together atJeff LewisDesign, and have been the entire time.”
“We’ve been very civil. It’s been civil,” Lewis said on the show, adding that the two have been setting boundaries as they take time apart in the romantic lives. “I want to be happy, and I want him to be happy.”
