Undertale

This quirky, JRPG-inspired lovefest has been the unexpected smash hit of 2015, resonating strongly with a legion of fans that helped propel it to victory in a large “Best. Game. Ever.” poll against some of the indelible classics of the medium, not to mention the10/10Ben Davis awarded it here at Destructoid. The people who likeUndertalereally gosh darn like it.

The game even made an unexpected star turn on the Christian television program700 Clubthanks to a concerned mother who didn’t like the “demonic” skeleton in a hoodie she saw on her kid’s phone. And while the host urged against the “brutality and violence” of games, we can appreciate the irony of making that sweeping statement about the rare JRPG that actually encourages complete non-violence.
