Super Bomberman Rlaunched back in early 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, but it’s had a fair share of updates and improvements since then, especially following its recent port to other home consoles. Konami has now revealed new playable characters are coming to the action game, and they’re bound to stir up nostalgia amongMetal Gear Solidfans.

Solid Snake and Naked Snake are being added as playable bombers toSuper Bomberman Rwith its version 2.1 patch. David Hayter, who has voiced Solid Snake since the original PlayStation release ofMetal Gear Solid, will once again reprise the role. Raiden will also be added as a playable character, and the update will also add a Mother Base playable stage forMetal Gearfans to enjoy. Snake will be able to play alongside all the other Konami classic characters that have made their way to the title, likePyramid Head ofSilent Hillor Simon Belmont ofCastlevania.

Konami has previously received repeated criticisms regarding how it has handled microtransactions inMetal Geargames.Metal Gear Survivecreated controversy by charging for extra saves, andMetal Gear Solid 5offered microtransactionsthat cost more than the game itself. In a move that will likely please fans who have grown tired of microtransactions in theMetal Gearfranchise,Super Bomberman Ris releasing the characters and stage for free with the 2.1 version update.

This is the second time this month that David Hayter has been confirmed to be voicing Snake in one form or another. Hayter previously responded to a fan via Twitter where he confirmed that he will also be reprising the role asSnake inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, who will return alongside every other character that has ever appeared inSuper Smash Bros.

It remains to be seen if Solid Snake will make more game appearances in the future, whether in aMetal Geargame or as a guest in another series. In any case, it seems fans of the series can at least continue to enjoy revisiting the iconic character in guest appearances in games like these.

Super Bomberman Ris available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and the Switch.
