Paired with the news that Square Enix would eventuallyshut down the PS2 and Xbox 360versions ofFinal Fantasy XI, the company also announced it would be partnering with Korean giant Nexon to create a mobile (iOS, Android) version of the long-running MMO.
The PC version (picture above) is still running a decade later, well into the release of Square’s replacement MMO,Final Fantasy XIV.

Game Insightcaptured the first screens (below) at the Nexon Develops Conference. It runs on Unreal Engine 4 (on a phone!) and is meant to release this year in Japan, Korea, North America, and Europe. UI is placeholder, but the actual game looks pretty.
According to Square, “[t]his new adaptation will optimize features for mobile devices to create an immersive, responsive and dynamic experience. Battles optimized for a touch control interface, along with improvements to coreFinal Fantasy XIsystems, will provide players smoother gameplay.”
