So , the winners :
Best novel : Blackout / All Clear by Connie Willis . She gave a really lovely speech about how all of us , the fan and readers in the interview , were like a family to her because this residential area had get hold of her in at a young age and shown her nothing but kindness since .
good novella : “ The Lifecycle of Software Objects ” by Ted Chiang ( Subterranean )

Best sports fan author : Claire Brialey

John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer : Lev Grossman , who made a nice speech about the fact that as “ best new author ” winners go , he ’s not a very new mortal — but it took him some time to figure out what he want to do and who he require to be . And the “ Big Heart Award ” went to Gay Haldeman , wife of author Joe Haldeman , to a huge standing standing ovation .
This year ’s Hugo Award prize was the usual rocket design create by Peter Weston , but this year ’s prize base was a lovely blown - glass airfoil by artist Marina Gelineau .
The night ’s handsome winners must include MCs Jay Lake and Ken Scholes , who fall out in top chapeau , tux jackets and colored shirt , before playing an acoustic spoof song about how Hugo Weaving started the first scientific discipline fabrication magazine , to the melodic phrase of “ American Pie , ” before launching into a unearthly alternate history about Victor Hugo and the French Hugo - nauts . Or waitress , did Hugo Gernsback write Neuromancer ? Their pa ahistorical ramblings about science fiction history were pretty uproarious and help us all get through the suspense .
